Hinduism: Rig Veda-Hymn to the Waters
“All-purifying, joying in their
nature, to paths of Gods the Goddesses move onward.
They never violate the laws of Indra. Present the oil-rich
offering to the Rivers, whom Surya with his bright
beams hath attracted, and Indra dug the path for them
to travel,
May these Streams give us ample room and freedom. Preserve us evermore, ye
Gods, with blessings.”
“And on that occasion the venerable Ânanda uttered the following stanzas: ‘Wonderful, boundless are the Ginas who remind us of the law preached by the extinct Ginas and mighty saints. Now I remember it as if it had happened to-day or yesterday.1 am freed from all doubts; I am ready for enlightenment. Such is my skilfulness, (as) I am the servitor, and keep the true law for the sake of enlightenment….’
And on that occasion the Lord uttered the following stanzas: ‘These two thousand disciples, Ânanda, who here are standing before me, to them, the sages, I now predict that in future they shall become Tathâgatas, After having paid eminent worship to the Buddhas, by means of infinite comparisons and examples, they shall, when standing in their last bodily existence, reach my extreme enlightenment. They shall all, under the same name, in every direction, at the same moment and instant, and sitting at the foot of the most exalted tree, become Buddhas, after they shall have reached the knowledge.’”
Zoroastrianism: Zend Avesta-Yasna 37
“Thus therefore do we worship Ahura Mazda, who made the Kine (the living creation), and the (embodied) Righteousness (which is incarnate in the clean), and the waters, and the wholesome plants, the stars, and the earth, and all (existing) objects that are good. Yea, we worship Him for His Sovereign Power and His greatness, beneficent (as they are), and with priority among the Yazads who abide beside the Kine (and care for her protection and support). And we worship Him under His name as Lord, to Mazda dear, the most beneficent (of names). We worship him with our bones, and with our flesh, (with our bodies and our life). And we worship the Fravashis of the saints, of holy men, and holy women; and Righteousness the Best do we worship, the most beauteous, the Bountiful Immortal and that which is endowed with light in all things good.
Judaism: Tanakh-(Kethuvim) Psalm 104:
Bless the Lord, O my soul. O the
Lord my God, Thou art very great; Thou art clothed with glory and majesty. Who coverest Thyself
with light as with a garment, who stretchest out the
heavens like a curtain; Who layest
the beams of Thine upper chambers in the waters, who makest the clouds Thy chariot, who walkest
upon the wings of the wind; Who makest
winds Thy messengers, the flaming fire Thy ministers. Who didst
establish the earth upon its foundations, that it should not be moved for ever
and ever; Thou didst cover it with the deep as with a vesture; the waters stood above the mountains.
At Thy rebuke they fled, at the voice of Thy thunder
they hasted away-- The mountains rose, the valleys sank
down--unto the place which Thou hadst founded for
them; Thou didst set a bound which they should not pass over,
that they might not return to cover the earth. Who sendest forth springs into the valleys; they run between
the mountains; They give drink to
every beast of the field, the wild asses quench their thirst. Beside
them dwell the fowl of the heaven, from among the branches they sing.
Who waterest the
mountains from Thine upper chambers; the earth is
full of the fruit of Thy works. Who causeth
the grass to spring up for the cattle, and herb for the service of man; to
bring forth bread out of the earth, And
wine that maketh glad the heart of man, making the
face brighter than oil, and bread that stayeth man's
heart.”
Christianity: Gospel of Matthew-Chapter
5
“But I say unto you, Love your
enemies, bless them that curse you, do good
to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and
persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which
is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the
evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just
and on the unjust.”
Islam: Qur’an Sura 29
“This life of the world is but a pastime and a game. Lo! the home of the Hereafter - that is Life, if they but knew. And when they mount upon the ships they pray to Allah, making their faith pure for Him only, but when He bringeth them safe to land, behold! they ascribe partners (unto Him), That they may disbelieve in that which We have given them, and that they may take their ease.
But they will come to know. Have they not seen that We have appointed a sanctuary immune (from violence), while mankind are ravaged all around them ? Do they then believe in falsehood and disbelieve in the bounty of Allah ?”
